The American Heart Association, the American College of Cardiology and other leading authorities have redefined high blood pressure guidelines. Now a reading of 130/80 is considered hypertensive, down from 140 over 90. For 46 percent of U.S. adult population means many of whom are under the age of 45, will be regarded as hypertensive. Based on the previous guidelines 32 percent of U.S. adults had high blood pressure.
